“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, “say the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

Malachi 3:10

About Us

Historical Background

The history of the Philadelphia Church International goes back as far as 1970s.   In the year 1973, the construction work of the Free Pentecostal Church commenced on 10th Street , Sinkor, Monrovia , Liberia. It was supervised by the Swedish Free Pentecostal Mission and completed in 1974. The doors were opened for regular Sunday worship services and other weekday activities. Soon after, the church was then renamed Philadelphia Free Pentecostal Church .

The church grew so rapidly that in the 1980s, Reverend Joel Laurore was appointed to serve as the First Pastor of the Philadelphia Free Pentecostal Church .  Reverend Laurore had earlier worked with the church for several years before this time.

In 1981, Pastor Laurore sensed the leading of the Lord to travel to the United States of America with his family for Ministry purpose.  Due to his departure, the Reverend Luis Lawrence was then appointed to serve as Pastor.  The church was then relocated in 1981 to Congo Town adjacent the Sophie's Ice Cream Shop in Monrovia , Liberia .

Reverend Lawrence served as pastor from 1981 to 1986. In 1986, Elder Samuel M. Dorbor Sr. was appointed to serve as Interim Pastor for six months. Elder Dorbor was then succeeded by Reverend Lawrence Kennedy who served for about eight (8) months.

In 1988, Bishop George D. Harris was appointed Acting Pastor and in 1989, he took over as full pastor. Since 1989, Reverend Harris has served as Pastor- In- Charge up to present.  Amidst the Liberian civil war, the work of Christian Ministry continued in and through the Philadelphia Church Ministry.

The vision of the Philadelphia Church is and has always been, “ To know Christ and make Him known throughout the World ” .  With this in mind, the Philadelphia Church has engaged in Church planting since its inception.  In 1992, a Mission Department was created and Reverend Samuel M. Dorbor Sr. was designated as the Mission Department head.

The work has grown and up to present, the Philadelphia Church has planted fifteen (15) additional churches in Liberia , Ivory Coast and the United States of America .  Presently, the church has ordained about (35) thirty-five people into the Gospel Ministry and licensed about fifteen (15) persons.  With the Spirit of Growth and Expansion, the Philadelphia Church family has sensed God's leading to the call of World Evangelism and Global Missions.

In 2000, the Church evolved from a single Church to an International ministry with four (4) major Departments namely;

  • Mission Department
  • Medical, Relief, and Social Services
  • Educational and Human Resource
  • Church Ministries Department

In 2004, the official constitution of the Philadelphia Church Ministries International was completed and the Ministry was fully incorporated granting her the rights and privileges to operate as a religious Non-profit entity.

The Pennsylvania branch of the Philadelphia Church International Ministries came about as the result of the leading of the Holy Spirit to start a branch of the ministry here in this Historic State .

In 2004, God led Reverend Samuel B. Martin and his family consisting of: Mother Juah Martin, Samina B. Martin, Samuel B. Martin III and Jonnie Lee Martin to start a work for the Philadelphia Ministry.

The work started in April of 2004 with Deacon James T. Josiah, Brother James Wolo, Sister Ciatta Kollie, Sister Elizabeth Quiah, Sister Beatrice Payne, Sister Annie Williams, and the late Brother Emmanuel Dorbor, who stayed with the church until his home going.   These served as founding members of the Pennsylvania branch.

The services started from Bristol , Bucks County in the home of Brother James N. Wolo and later moved to the Bristol Community Hall. Three weeks later, the church moved to the home of Sister Elizabeth Quiah for about two months before the transition to the ACANA Building on Chester Avenue . The church stayed with the ACANA family until 2006 when the Lord blessed us with our own property on 5541 Baltimore Avenue , Philadelphia , Pennsylvania .  Since then, God has been brining so many good people to help promote His work.
